#OOTD: Red Velvet

“She likes to make me think that I’m a freak just for her velvet” – R5

Two months ago, I went to an R5 concert in NYC and it was the first time that I saw them. Although I knew of their name through friends and met three out of the five at a party in L.A., it was time for me to let my earbuds give in. Given that I knew NOTHING of their songs prior to the concert, I couldn’t resist taping a song or two.

As I got home, I had to look up half the lyrics of this amazing song and it turns out that it was aptly titled “Red Velvet”. Like my favorite cupcake flavor, the melody felt delicious, mouthwatering and arousing. Sitting in my closet for an X amount of months, it inspired me to pull out my vintage Betsey Johnson red velvet dress, which I scored on Etsy nearly five years ago.

Here, I wore it during my last month in NYC with my go-to floral Docs, Chanel bag and Seville Michelle choker. Summer-appropriate, yet cool enough to wear it anywhere else that isn’t sweltering hot. If you’re feeling the chills, just throw on a jacket. šŸ˜‰

OOTD: The Hump Day Look

Happy Hump Day, Varinaders! What’s up? Summer time is coming over and I literally cannot wait to show you how I rock the temps. Isn’t it so nice that I can finally wear shorts AND sleeveless tops?! Especially when I’m having a period, nothing else gets more comfortable than being able to wear them. Not to mention, it’s a good way to resort to being dressed down without having to rely on yoga pants.

As I want to walk around town, all I need is a cross body bag, a bracelet, trusty white sneakers and an iced coffee.

#OOTD: Back to Reality

Weekend One has already ended and it’s a bummer that you have to go back to work. However, the festival spirit is still inside you. Remember those statement sunnies and that bling bling choker you bought three weeks ago? Put ’em on again! Before you think about selling your velvet shorts to Buffalo Exchange, plan another outfit with ’em! If you marry your festival wardrobe with your work basics, it’s a whole new take on that “I just got out of work” outfit that can take you to drinks to a fun night out!

#OOTD: Another One Bites the Dust

Uniqlo turtleneck | vintage DARE tee | vintage kimono | Re/Done jeans | Current Mood bag | Vivienne Westwood and The Cobrashop rings | Miista bootsĀ

Are you ready for this new look? Be prepared to get yourselves hanging out at the edge of your seat: the kimono has officially arrived!

Silky smooth with sleek lines and beautiful embroidered accents, this killer red kimono is not just meant to be kept in the house. Last fall, my friends and I went to A Current Affair, where vintage vendors from coast to coast pimped out the hottest merch. While it was a cold rainy day, nothing could make me happier than to splurge my cash on new clothes. Given that I literally lived for statement pieces, my eyes went weak at the sight of a red silk embroidered kimono. Long and straight with sleek angular cuts, it was destined to belongĀ to me.

Although kimonos aren’t zero degrees Celsius-friendly, I ain’t ever letting that thing collect some dust.

See how much potential you can have with this?! Throw on some layers, grab your favorite jeans andĀ channel your inner Mary-Kate Olsen.

DISCLAIMER: I bought my vintage DARE tee from Shop Exile, but you can get a similar shirt on Etsy. The clothes that don’t have hyperlinks are either vintage, out of stock or discontinued pieces. And with Starbucks, I am not sponsored by them.

#OOTD: Law and Disorder

Black and white; striped and solid; studs and bling. Is there anything you can and cannot do? Believe me, I’ve been there.

Today, I visited the National Gallery Museum, which was once the Singapore Supreme Court. Although I was aware that I’d be paying a visit to Old Supreme Court, little did I know that my outfit matched one of their displays! In this case, it was an exhibit that recreated an old-time police room with walls reminiscent of the prison cells that were once below the museum.

While dressing for court usually requires the proper clean and classy look, there is no such thing as law and order when it’s off-duty. I may have missed an opportunity to pull a Lindsay Lohan, butĀ I’veĀ made up for it by breaking and making the rules.

Rule #1: DO mix prints!

Remember the days when your mom told you to wear solids and stripes? Well, she may be right except for one thing: you can wear stripes and checks in one outfit! It’s very pure ’90s grunge with that touch of Clueless mixed in; however, the most 2017 way of doing it is toss on your favorite slip dress with your well-loved striped tee. Make sure the dress is actually PRINTED!!! No look can be complete when two becomes one.

Rule #2: Sky is NEVER the limit!

The sages of fashion may tell you to wear embellishments in small doses, but here, there is no such thing. In fact, I like to throw on my studs and crystals. And if that ain’t enough, don’t be afraid to pull out your hair clips. Talk about the perfect marriage between class and camp!

Rule #3: WEAR things that don’t conventionally flatter your body

You once prayed to God to make your boobs grow until you can’t see your feet. Well, I did that and today, I try not to regret my wishes. As 32DD and 5’4″ gal (I don’t know what this is in meters, lah!), I’m actually wearing a boxy cropped tee and babydoll dress. Boxy tees and babydoll tees are NOT supposed to be on bustier bodies, but fuck that shit. Just do it when you wanna show off your waist, can?

#OOTD: The New Basics

What exactly are basics? It’s honestly so hard for me to define it, but it usually consists of the plainest items in the closet. T-shirts, jeans, white sneakers, LBDs…you name it! But, that’s not my type of basic.

Dying to know how exactly I define my basics? Here’s the recipe:
