The Most Flattering Beauty Trend You Never Tried Before

Sorry, Yoda –  I busted your lightsaber. May the force be with my glow.

Cosmically hypnotizing and magnetizing, the bluish tones of my brand new glow leaves me feeling like I’ve been stuck in Alderaan. Although I’m no intergalactic princess, I can’t thank Make Up Store enough for giving me that lightsaber-esque glow. While the fabled sword only has one color, the Swedish cosmetic brand’s Satin Gloss and High Tech Lighter packs the punch with a multidimensional glow that feels super transcendental.

As someone who is obsessed with glowing skin and a whole lotta extra shimmer, I can’t resist joining the bandwagon for filter-friendly highlighter-esque beauty products. But before I go on, is it really worth it to indulge in this trend?

Prime Up Your Skin with Glossier’s Moisturizer

It’s snowing, it’s pouring, but your girl ain’t snoring. Not in the literal sense, but in the sense that I cannot afford to miss out on the newest beauty products. Given that NYC has cold and harsh winters that can either make you go happy (if you’ve never seen the snow) or insane (like you never want to get out the damn house), the one thing that never fails to brighten up my day is the new Priming Moisturizer Rich.

Frankly, this is the not the first time I’ve tried skincare from this line. When Glossier was released in the fall of 2014, I was one of the few who lined up and snagged their Priming Moisturizer at the click of the mouse. While their Priming Moisturizer was felt soft and baby smooth across the skin, this new product is purposely made to be extra thick. (More like Betty Crocker vanilla frosting thick than Kylie Jenner thick)

With thick moisturizers, they are great at nourishing my thirsty and parched skin. However, I also have oily and sensitive skin (as diagnosed by my dermatologist) that’s prone to breaking out. For me, breakouts are always caused by eating A) gluten, B) dairy, C) stress and unfortunately, D) super rich moisturizers with ingredients that unintentionally clog my pores. As much as I wanted to bring this bad girl home, the pangs of apprehension hit my stomach before I even thought of pulling out $25 for a tub.

Verdict: 😋😋😋😋

The thing about products with a ton of hype is that I am expected to believe in it. This time, I have to admit that it really does the job of keeping my skin in tip-top condition. It makes my neck SO SOFT like baby’s skin and my cheeks feel like velvet. Apart from that, the one con is that too much richness in the moisturizer leaves my face feeling a little sticky. Considering that not everyone’s skin is the same, it tends to be a little sticker on oilier complexions like mine. Despite that one flaw, it does a phenomenal job at keeping my face fresh and dewy!

What are your favorite moisturizers? Will you go out and buy Glossier’s moisturizer?

UPDATE: I have returned this product as it made me break out after a few days of using it. I didn’t realize that my skin was not able to take it in as I had hoped. If you have not tried it yet and would like to try it, I hope you have better luck than I did!

2017 Golden Globes: The Experimental Classics

Awards season is officially back in full swing and there’s nothing else better than the Golden Globes to kick off the festivities! With a new year, there’s gotta be a room for new silhouettes, right!? In this case, the Golden Globes has certainly proven me right.

For the past few years, the fashion game at the Golden Globes was SO boring after seeing the same old clean, lean and mean minimalist silhouettes that have dominated the red carpet since 2011. Did you even remember when you saw Jennifer Lawrence in that cutout Dior red dress last year? 😴😴😴 Talk about being utterly forgettable!

Although the Golden Globes are considered as a “warm up” for the Oscars, what’s so great about it is that you have more chances of seeing fresher silhouettes crop up on the carpet. Here are my top picks for the best in the game!

Sophie Turner, Janelle Monae, Nicole Kidman, Priyanka Chopra and Evan Rachel Wood KILLS it! What better way can I sum up their outfits?!

Glossier’s Boy Brow: A True Story on How I Lost and Found My Brows

The struggle to get eyebrows is real.

And if you think I’m joking, I’m really not. Sparse, but straight, my eyebrows are both a blessing and a curse. Shape-wise, I’ve never had too much trouble being able to define, tweeze and shape ’em. Frankly, that’s not too terrible to deal with. On the other hand, the lack of thickness is an unfortunate inheritance from my mom’s side of the family. (FYI, my mom says that she got it from her father, whose eyebrows are practically non-existent!)

When I was a baby, my mom applied candlenut oil on my brows for the sake of making them grow. Unfortunately, that was the ultimate #browfail.

This was me rocking the earliest incarnation of the Instagram brow

From there, I really didn’t do anything too drastic other than tweezing them until I got to the second semester of junior year in college. At that time, I was a little too lazy to grab a pencil and fill in my damn brows. The only thing I could grab was a Clio brow gel that contained some color to fill them in. That kinda sealed the deal, right?! Um….not so. 😞 It was a little too light as the gel was brown and my hair was darker than the shade of my eyebrows. Then, a brow savior from heaven dropped by and answered my prayers.

Huda Beauty: the BEST beauty brand you seriously need to know

It’s the new year and there is no other excuse to contain yourself. Except when it comes to makeup.

Last year, I’ve gone on a beauty binge by snapping up Nyx lip glosses on the sole purpose of having Kylie Jenner‘s lip gloss dupes. I even went this far to buy Kat Von D liquid lipsticks just to have the “most coveted” shades – Lolita and Lolita II – in my freaking drawer. Not to mention, I’ve snapped up tubes of Milani just to cop that Kylie metallic liquid lip look. (Even though I’m not a fan of Kylie personally, I really do like her makeup shades, which is something I probably shouldn’t admit!) From then on, I tried to make myself pinky swear that I wouldn’t buy any makeup this year. Until now.
