Party Time Excellent: The Strappy Sandal

Chanel Ankle Purse | Raye x NBD x Revolve Hunter Heels (worn throughout)

The sun’s rising, you feel the nice breeze and the temps heat up. No longer do you feel the need to bundle yourself up in a coat. No longer do you feel the need to step outside of the house looking like the Michelin Man. Instead of keeping your toes wrapped up inside your boots, you expose ’em out in the flesh. If there is one thing that will keep you on your toes at those rooftop and/or backyard parties, it’s the party sandal.

So, what exactly IS a party sandal? It’s a sandal where you can only wear it to parties. Whether it be at a trendy restaurant for your birthday or your BFF’s engagement shindig, you can easily slide them on or off! Wanna know my go-to sandal? It’s Raye x Revolve x NBD’s Hunter strappy heel!

What I really like about those Raye x Revolve x NBD sandals is that they can be easily zipped up as 1-2-3. If this is your first time ordering anything from the L.A.-based e-tailer, the sizes from Raye are true to size. However, these shoes are a little big on me even though I got them in my true size. Anywhere than that, you can put in your Dr. Scholl’s foot pads to keep your feet secure. Before I go on, what kind of party should you wear these shoes to!?

A) The Birthday Party

Pause for a second. Can’t be bothered to wear a dress? Rock your favorite oversized tee with a choker neckline and velvet shorts! It’s SO rock ‘n roll luxe, yet incredibly sexy with hints of thotty chic (FORMULA: 90% class, 10% sleaze). I didn’t really throw on much accessories as I want you to imagine the look yourself, but put on some cute XL hoops or multiple ring stacks on your fingers!

B) The Theme Party

Stuck in those #thowback moments? Get ready to RELIVE the decade you aspire to be in by simply channeling it. Despite being born in the ’90s, the decade I really grew up in was the 2000s. While you got your Paris Hiltons, Olsen twins and Nicole Richies, one of my go-to style icons back in the day was no other than Lindsay Lohan.

As the ultimate tabloid queen, she was never caught without a graphic tee (especially if it’s Harley!), leggings and the occasional ankle bracelet. Oh, did I almost forget that she once wore LEATHER BERMUDAS?! Man, 2006-2008 was a completely different time.

If you are ready to party like it’s 2008, throw on your favorite graphic tee, bermuda shorts, heels AND tiny purse!

C) The Graduation Dinner Party

Girl, you finally finished school! Can you believe it?! After all that hard-earned money you’ve been saving up for a cute dress, splurge it wisely on a nice form-fitting beauty. In this case, RtA’s off-the-shoulder Bardot denim dress with exposed zippers is the one I swear by. Not to mention, it literally WRAPS my body like your favorite burrito at Chipotle. Seriously, nothing beats this dress when it comes to pairing these heels. As for accessories, follow this rule of thumb: if you want to rock a Bardot neckline, go for earrings. A hoop, drop or circle will suffice. Avoid chokers at all cost as it’s going to make you look like you just came out from 2016. Instead, you should reuse your choker and turn it into a bracelet! Lastly, just stack it on with MORE bracelets.

What looks will you try with a strappy sandal?

The Last Days of the Big Chill

The temps are getting warmer than ever and it’s a sign that a dream of spring has finally came! No longer are we stuck in the winds of winter, it’s time to take advantage of the last few days of the big chill. Even as the temperatures are creeping up, there are some winter-friendly options that can still work at this time.

OK, it’s still cold, but you need to bundle up. My classic bundle-up outfit – even when I need a t-shirt – always consists of a go-to turtleneck and thermal leggings. Thermal leggings and turtlenecks are mano a mano; however, it can get too basic! Top it off with your favorite band tee and patched up jacket that is guaranteed to have this “I may be cute, but don’t try me” type of vibe. It’s not a easy look to pull off, but I’m telling you, if you try this combo, you can make everyone believe that you are a Hadid sister.

B) The Velvet Dress

Technically, velvet is a fall to winter fabric; however, people still wear velvet in the summer. Even at this transitional phase, velvet is still cool enough to wear it out. These two velvet dresses are dramatic, but entirely different. My vintage Donna Karan velvet dress is more for that ’90s Sharon Stone girl who wants to get a little more basic. When worn with a bomber jacket, it’s fierce as fuck.

For velvet dress #2, it’s got that Sabrina Spellman vibe to it when paired with lace socks and sandals. If you think that going out in 10 degrees Celsius guarantees instant warmth, rock it with a denim jacket by all means. But if you are still feeling the cold, channel your inner Jordan Catalano by throwing on a shearling-lined denim jacket. Talk about cuteness AND warmth at the same time!

C) Faux fur3B2A6047.JPG3B2A6061.JPG

Ignore my Andy Warhol hair. Here, a double dose of faux fur never hurts. Try throwing on this look with a metallic turtleneck, faux fur chubby and a faux fur skirt! Faux fur is not a spring-friendly fabric, but if Rihanna does it (NOTE: her coat was real fur), please do it! Not only can it keep you warm, it’s perfect for those balmy nights. If you are feeling hungover from going too hard on Sunday, a pair of statement shades never hurt.

If you believe that these looks are hard to stunt in, fear not! Be free, live your life and most importantly, keep it #LivinLaVariNaDah!

#HERssentials: the city edition

New York, I’ve missed you terribly.

It’s been a month and a half since I left you. While I wanna sleep all day long and complain about the cold weather (ugh, I hate it!), there are few things that make me happy all day long. (I secretly wanna sing like Julie Andrews while trying to battle this nasty jet lag!)

Everyone always swears by the “one” thing they can’t live without, but there are a few that I need to start my day with. Since childhood, I’ve been collecting sunglasses and if there’s one that I legibly cannot live without, it’d be my vintage ’90s cat eye shades from Giant Vintage. From the pearly white frames to the elliptical oval lenses, these bad girls are alien chic at its finest. Although alien shades have a bad rap for being a ‘lil too cheesy, it’s always done right when you have ’em in a cat eye silhouette. If you wanna cop the exact look, you can get something similar to this.

If I need to have a purse, I’ll always grab my Pop & Suki bag. Honestly, it is THE best (bag) I’ve ever had! Although it’s small, it can stuff EVERYTHING: keys, Metrocard, phone, small wallet, lipsticks, etc! Unlike most bags in the game, you can sling it on your shoulder or let it go as a clutch. Price-wise, I have to admit that it was worth spending on. It’s so easy to find it in case I ever store it. 😉

Speaking of lipsticks, you seriously NEED to buy this. I’m being 100% dead serious. Milani liquid metallic lipsticks are HEAVENLY and freakishly regal! Among all the shades there, the one I swear by is Matterialistic, a brownish coppery red. Although metallic shades are always perceived to be “trendy”, it’s something to invest in since you never know when you need to add that “oomph”. WARNING: you will get TONS of compliments wearing this beauty! ✨✨

Last but not least, no purse is EVER complete without a cute stuffed toy. Every adult in your life older than your sister may say that it’s “too kiddy” to rock a plush, but screw it! As a firm believer that there’s no limit in age, this cute ‘lil lion is here to make me smile. Before I can go on, it’s the official mascot of Loyola Marymount University, where I went to college, and his name is Iggy the Lion. Any time I put ‘lil Iggy on, I just wanna pet him! I mean, don’t you wanna feel that mane?!
